A Twist of Autumn: Monochromatic Orange Easel Card

 Hello Crafty Friends!

Today I’m sharing my latest Design Team project for the newest challenge over at Di’s Digi Designs. This time the theme is Monochromatic—which means we were encouraged to use shades and tones of one color throughout our card design. We were allowed to use multiple colors in our images, but the overall card base and embellishing needed to focus on one main color. I thought this was such a fun twist and a great way to stretch creativity!

For my card, I chose to work with the absolutely adorable Maple Paws image. I colored this sweet little character with my Prismacolor pencils, keeping to warm and cozy autumn tones. Once I finished the coloring, the orange hues in the image really stood out to me—and that inspired the direction for the card.

I also decided to revisit a card style I haven’t made in quite a while: the twisted easel card. I always love how interactive and unique the finished look is, and it’s a wonderful way to showcase layered papers and embellishments.

Once the base was created, I pulled out my orange paper scraps drawer (yes, the whole drawer!) and started mixing and matching shades and patterns until I had just the right blend of tones. I used a selection of dies from my stash to help with layering, as well as a lace border die so I could create my own coordinating lace trim from orange cardstock—such a fun detail!

To finish the card, I added:

• Coordinating sentiments

• Orange flowers and leaves for texture and dimension

• And a sprinkle of orange pearls in varying hues for just the right pop

I truly loved making this card, and I think it turned out so warm, cheerful, and perfect for fall. Monochromatic can sound limiting at first, but it really opens up the chance to play with texture, tone, shade, and layer—which makes it extra enjoyable!
