Anything With Wings, Scales or Tails – Di’s Digi Designs Challenge

Hi friends, and welcome back to my crafty corner! This week I’m sharing my latest Design Team project for the Di’s Digi Designs Challenge Blog, where the new theme is Anything With Wings, Scales, or Tails. There are so many adorable possibilities with this prompt, but I couldn’t resist reaching for one of Di’s beautiful Fall Pixie images — Paradise Pixie. She’s just the sweetest, and the autumn feel of the image was perfect for this time of year.

I’ve been a little under the weather lately, so I’ve been spending much of my downtime tucked into my chair with my pencil case nearby. Being forced to slow down a bit put me right in the mood for some Prismacolor coloring, and I really enjoyed bringing this darling pixie to life using warm, rich autumn tones.

Since Paradise Pixie is holding a maple leaf, I thought it would be fun to carry that theme into the card design. I decided to create a Maple Leaf Easel Card Base using Cricut Design Space. I’ll link the card base cut file here

I could have had Cricut do the scoring, but honestly, I really prefer the look of scoring by hand — I feel like I get a cleaner fold using my scoreboard. So I manually scored the card base between the two leaves, and then added the easel fold halfway down the front leaf.

The leaf design I chose has these lovely “window” style openings, and to add a bit of extra color and dimension, I hand cut pieces of vellum to adhere behind the openings. It gives the leaf such a soft, glowing look and really enhances the fall vibe.

Once the base was assembled, I placed the colored Paradise Pixie right in the center of the leaf. To embellish without overwhelming the design, I added just a couple of wooden leaves (I picked mine up at Hobby Lobby) and a few small pearls. I wanted the leaf shape and the image to really shine, so I kept the accents subtle. I added a coordinating sentiment and a couple more wooden leaves to the bottom portion of the easel for the card to “stand.”

One of the reasons I love easel cards so much is that they become little display pieces — they feel almost like a gift all by themselves!

I’m really happy with how this fall-inspired project turned out, and I hope it sparks a little inspiration for you as well. I’d love to see what you create, so come play along with us in the challenge this week!

Thanks for stopping by, and happy crafting! 🍂✨
