Sailing into Creativity with Di's Digital Designs
Hello crafty friends!
I'm back again with another exciting creation for the Di's Digital Designs Challenge Blog, where the theme this time is "Circles Everywhere!" How fun is that? When I first saw the challenge, I knew I wanted to push myself to design something a bit out of the ordinary and really embrace that circle theme. So, I decided to create a Circle Shaped Rocker Card, which is a fun and unique way to present a design!
For this project, I chose the "Dream Boat Mice" digital stamp from Di’s Etsy shop. This adorable image features two sweet little mice sailing in a boat made of newspaper—perfect for the challenge! The combination of the cute mice, their dreamy little boat, and the sea made me think of a whimsical ocean-themed card. I couldn’t resist giving it a sea-inspired twist.
Coloring with Ohuhu Markers
I used Ohuhu Markers to color in the image, and I must say, these markers have quickly become one of my go-to tools! They blend so beautifully, and I love how vibrant the colors turn out. For this project, I chose soft browns and grays for the mice, and primaries for the boat. I added shading and some soft highlights to the boat. I wanted the little mice to feel like they were truly setting sail on an adventure.
Designing the Card on Cricut Design Space
For the card base, I turned to Cricut Design Space. Designing the circle-shaped rocker card was a breeze thanks to this platform. I made sure the card followed the natural flow of the circle, with the boat image placed prominently in the center. Cricut helped me cut out the shape and the layers perfectly, allowing me to focus on the fun part—embellishing! You can find the cut files on Cricut Design Space Here:
Sea-Themed Background
To tie the image together with the theme of sailing, I decided to create a sea-themed background for the card. I used textured papers to add dimension to the ocean waves and to enhance the beachy vibe. The newspaper boat and the water needed a special touch, so I embossed some of the sea elements for texture. I think the added dimension really makes the waves pop and gives the card a bit more interest when you look at it up close.
Adding Some Extra Shine and Dimension
No card is complete without a little extra detail, right? I added some enamel dots to the card for a little pop of color and shine. These little accents added a playful feel and enhanced the overall look without overwhelming the design. And of course, I couldn't resist some heat embossing! I stamped the sentiment “Let your dreams set sail” in a vibrant red embossing powder to create a stunning focal point. The red added just the right amount of contrast and really made the sentiment stand out on the card.
Final Touches
To complete this rocker card, I carefully assembled all the layers with foam tape and made sure everything was secure. I also made sure the card would stand up well, as rocker cards need that little extra attention to stability. With a few more enamel dots and some final adjustments, my project was ready!
I’m so happy with how this card turned out. It really embraces the "Circles Everywhere" challenge and brings Di’s sweet "Dream Boat Mice" image to life in a unique way. I hope you’ll give this technique a try—whether it’s with Cricut, embossing, or your favorite digital images, there's so much room for creativity!
