Winter Wonderland Card featuring Di's Digital Stamps: A Multi-Frame Print Technique
Hello, crafty friends!
I’m so excited to share a new card I created as a member of the design team for the latest Di's Digital Challenge, where the theme is Winter Wonderland. The holiday season is upon us, and what better way to get in the winter spirit than by creating a card featuring Di’s stunning digital images?
For this challenge, I chose to work with one of Di’s beautiful winter-themed prints, What a Winterful World. I decided to put my own spin on things and tried out a technique I’ve seen floating around in the Cricut Inspiration Groups on Facebook. While I’m not entirely sure what this technique is officially called, I’m calling it the “Multi-Frame Print Card.”
Here’s how I created this elegant and simple card:
Choosing the Print: I started by selecting the What a Winterful World digital stamp from Di’s Digital Stamps. The image itself is beautiful—full of serene winter vibes, which was perfect for this challenge.
Duplicating and Framing the Image: In Cricut Design Space, I uploaded the image and made a duplicate. On the first duplicate I cut a frame around the print, making it about 1 inch wide.
Adding a Touch of Sparkle: To make the frame stand out, I decided to add a little sparkle. I used the offset feature again to create a second, slightly larger frame that I cut out of glittery blue cardstock. This added a frosty, wintry feel to the design—perfect for the winter wonderland theme.
Cutting and Layering: After cutting all the pieces—my original print, the glittery offset frame, and the inner frame—I carefully layered the frame pieces together. I stitched them in place using my sewing machine for added texture and a fun, tactile element. I love the texture that stitching adds to cards; it makes them feel so special and handmade.
Adding Dimension: Once the stitching was done, I used foam tape to layer the glittery frame over the original print. This gave the card a bit of dimension and made the image pop. The effect was beautiful—like a framed piece of art with the print itself forming the layered frame.
Finishing Touches: I didn’t want to overdo it with embellishments, as the card’s elegance really speaks for itself. However, I did add a simple stamped and embossed sentiment right in the center of the print. This subtle addition gave the card a little texture and helped tie everything together.
Mounting the Design: Finally, I mounted the layered print onto a 5 x 6-inch card blank. The clean, simple design is both striking and serene, perfect for sending winter greetings to friends and family this season.
The Result: The final card is understated yet absolutely stunning. Sometimes less is more, and I think this card exemplifies that perfectly. The layered, stitched frame adds dimension without overwhelming the print, and the glittery accents give it a wintry sparkle, ideal for the Winter Wonderland theme.
Tips & Tricks:
- Don’t be afraid to try out new techniques with your Cricut machine! The offset and layering features are perfect for creating unique designs, and they add so much to your card-making projects.
- When using digital stamps, experiment with resizing and layering them for different effects. You’ll be surprised by how versatile a single image can be!
- If you have a sewing machine, consider adding stitching to your cards for that handmade touch. It adds a lovely texture and feels like a cozy winter craft project.
