Crafting a Unique Tree Shaped Card for My Time To Craft Christmas Challenge #103

Hello, crafty friends!

I’m thrilled to share the card I made for my Design Team entry in the My Time To Craft Christmas Blog Challenge #103. For the next five challenges, the theme is all about shaped cards, and we’re kicking things off with Tree Shaped Cards. What a fun and festive way to start a new year of holiday crafting!

For my entry, I decided to step outside the typical tree card designs and use a Hexagon Pop-Up Card featuring a tall Christmas Tree. I’ve had this SVG file tucked away for years from the Dreaming Tree website, and I finally found the perfect opportunity to bring it to life. This card is not only beautiful to display, but it also has a fun surprise — it completely collapses flat to fit into an envelope, making it easy to mail despite its pop-up design.

How I Made the Card

  1. Choosing the Design: I wanted to create something that had that “wow” factor but was still relatively easy to assemble. The Hexagon Pop-Up Card is a great choice for this challenge because of its versatility and how it allows for a 3D tree to be the star of the show. If you’d like to make your own, you can find the SVG file and detailed instructions on the Dreaming Tree website.

  2. Materials:

    • Cardstock: I used a mix of vibrant colors to create the layers of the tree. For the tree itself, I went with shades of green to give it a natural, festive feel.
    • Embellishments: Once the card was assembled, I embellished it with some beautiful gems for a touch of sparkle, a Christmas bow at the top of the tree, and a stamped Christmas sentiment at the bottom. The gems really added that extra festive shimmer, while the bow gave it the perfect finishing touch.
  3. Constructing the Card: The hexagonal pop-up base really helps bring the card to life. As you pull it out of the envelope, the tree "pops" into a 3D shape, making it an instant attention-grabber. I love how it displays beautifully on a shelf, yet can be folded flat to mail, which makes it both decorative and practical.

Why I Love This Card

There are a few things that really make this card stand out to me:

  • The Display Factor: Once it's opened, this card makes a gorgeous holiday decoration! The tree has so much dimension, and the overall hexagon shape is unique and modern.

  • Easy to Mail: Even though it’s a pop-up card, it folds flat for mailing, which is something I always appreciate. So many pop-up cards can be a challenge to mail, but this one was designed to collapse neatly into an envelope.

  • The Personal Touch: The little gems, the bow, and the sentiment all work together to give it that personal, handcrafted touch that makes a handmade card so special. There’s something about using real, tactile elements that just adds a certain warmth to a Christmas card.

Where to Find the SVG File & Instructions

If you want to create this card yourself (and I highly recommend you do!), you can visit the Dreaming Tree website. They offer the Hexagon Pop-Up Christmas Tree Card SVG file along with step-by-step instructions, which are easy to follow even if you're new to crafting with SVG files.

Pro Tip: Don’t be afraid to experiment with different cardstock colors or embellishments. You could use glitter paper for extra sparkle, or perhaps a metallic bow for a chic twist. The possibilities are endless!

Final Thoughts

I hope this card has inspired you to get crafting and join us in the My Time To Craft Christmas Challenge #103! There’s still plenty of time to create and share your own Tree Shaped Card. I can’t wait to see all the amazing creations everyone comes up with.
