Crafting a Sweet "SQUEAK, SHAKE MICE" Card for Di’s Digital Challenge Blog

 Happy New Year, crafty friends!

I’m so excited to kick off the new year with my first entry for Di’s Digital Challenge Blog! The theme for this challenge is all about hand-colored images, which is right up my alley. For this card, I decided to create something sweet—and I mean sweet in more ways than one!

I used Di’s Digital Stamp "Squeak, Shake Mice", which is just too adorable, and paired it with some fun, candy-themed papers to create a card that’s both cute and colorful.

The Sweet Details:

  1. Card Base & Layers:
I started with a 6x6 card base, which gave me plenty of room to play with layers of patterned paper. I selected several fun, sweets-themed patterns—think donuts, candy stripes, and sprinkles—to bring this design to life. The layers are simple but bold, setting the perfect backdrop for the main image.

  2. The Star of the Show - "Squeak, Shake Mice":
The "Squeak, Shake Mice" digital stamp from Di’s Digital Stamps was the perfect image to feature. I printed it onto cardstock and then got to work hand-coloring it using Prismacolor pencils. I love the soft, rich tones that pencils give, and I spent extra time blending the colors to make the mice look as adorable as possible. The little details—the shading on their cheeks, the soft fur, and the candy pieces they’re holding—really made this image pop!

  3. Sewing for Extra Texture:
After layering the patterned papers, I added a personal touch by using my handheld sewing machine to stitch around the edges of each layer. The subtle border of stitches adds so much texture and depth to the card, giving it a lovely handmade feel. It’s a small detail, but I love how it elevates the overall design.

  4. Delicious Donuts & Glossy Accents:
For an extra layer of sweetness, I cut out donut shapes from one of the patterned papers and gave them a glossy finish by covering them with Ranger Glossy Accents. Once dry, the donuts had the perfect “hard glaze” look, making them look just like the real thing!

  5. Handmade Lollipop:
One of my favorite parts of this card is the handmade lollipop. I took a toothpick and wrapped bakers twine around it to create the lollipop swirl. Once the twine was securely glued down, I carefully cut off the excess and added a second toothpick to create a new stem. The result is a super cute, 3D embellishment that adds a playful, candy-shop vibe to the card.

  6. Finishing Touches - Ribbon:
To tie everything together, I added a gorgeous cream and gold "Sprinkled" ribbon tied in a big bow. It’s the perfect accent to finish off the sweet, whimsical look of the card.

Why I Love This Card:

  • The Playful Colors: I love how all the bright colors from the patterned papers and the hand-colored image come together. The card feels fun and festive—just the thing for anyone with a sweet tooth (or a love for cute mice!).

  • Handmade Details: The sewing, handmade lollipop, and glossy donuts really add that personal touch that makes the card feel extra special. It’s the little things like these that bring a card to life!

  • It’s Perfect for Any Occasion: Whether it’s a birthday, a “just because” note, or a sweet treat for a friend, this card would be a hit for any occasion.
