Celebrating My 4th Graders: Paw Print Shaker Easel Card for a Birthday
Hello, crafty friends!
As a 4th grade teacher, one of the best parts of my job is celebrating my students' birthdays with them. There's something so special about creating personalized cards for my kids—especially when those cards can be displayed proudly on their desks for the day! It’s one of those little things that makes their birthdays feel even more magical. 🌟
Today, I’m sharing a fun card I made for one of my students that I know they’ll love. This birthday card features a playful paw print shaker element and is designed as an easel card, which makes it extra special because it stands up for display. Let me walk you through how I made it!
The Design: Paw Print Shaker Easel Card
I wanted this card to feel fun and interactive for a young student, so I decided to use a shaker element. The focal point of the shaker is a cute paw print, which I thought would be perfect for the little animal lovers in my class. The paw print was filled with sparkly sequins in bright colors, adding a touch of excitement when they shake the card!
- Card Type: Easel Card
- Shaker Element: Paw Print filled with sequins
- Paper Collection: The Gift of Giving by Craft Consortium (retired)
- Artist: Helz Cuppleditch
The Paper Collection: The Gift of Giving
For this card, I used the “The Gift of Giving” paper collection from Craft Consortium. This retired set is packed with adorable, kid-friendly designs, and I thought the whimsical illustrations by Helz Cuppleditch would be perfect for a young student’s birthday. The images are so cute and vibrant, featuring everything from playful animals to sweet patterns that work great for crafting fun, cheerful cards.
I especially love the paper designs with animal motifs—so many options to choose from when making something that’s both personal and celebratory!
The Card Details
Base and Structure:
I created the base of the card with a simple fold to form the easel card. Easel cards are great for kids because they stand up, so they can display their card on their desks or at home and enjoy it all day long!Paw Print Shaker:
The star of the card is definitely the paw print shaker element. I used a paw print die-cut (which I absolutely love!) and backed it with clear acetate. Then, I filled the shaker with colorful sequins that match the bright, happy color scheme of the card. The movement and sparkle make the card extra fun to look at!Embellishments:
To complete the look, I added a few embellishments from the Craft Consortium collection, like tiny heart stickers and some glittery accents. These little details help tie the design together while adding a bit of sparkle—because what birthday card is complete without a little sparkle?
Why I Love Easel Cards for Kids
Easel cards are such a fun option for kid's birthday cards because of their interactive nature. Kids love being able to set up and display their cards, and it adds an extra level of excitement. Plus, the design possibilities are endless! Whether you’re making a card for a boy or a girl, with themes from animals to outer space, you can really customize the look to make it personal and fun.
It’s also a great way to incorporate shaker elements without being too complicated. The paw print shaker on this card is simple but has a huge visual impact, especially for kids who love animals.
Final Thoughts
Creating these birthday cards for my students is one of the highlights of my teaching year. Not only does it let me show my students that I care, but it also gives me the chance to put my crafting skills to use in a way that brings a smile to their faces. This paw print shaker easel card is one of my favorites so far, and I know it’s going to be displayed proudly on my student's desk for the rest of the day!
If you want to make your own easel card, I definitely recommend trying out this design. It’s simple to create, but the shaker element adds that fun, interactive flair that kids love. You can use any paper collection that speaks to your theme—whether it's animals, sports, or superheroes—and make something truly special.
