“Button Up” for a Birthday – Masculine Fishing Card Featuring Di’s Funny Fishing Image

Hello Crafty Friends!

We’ve cast out a new theme over at Di’s Digital Challenge Blog, and this time it’s all about the details — our theme is “Button Up”! 🧵 I love how versatile this prompt is, and it gave me the perfect excuse to create a masculine birthday card I needed for an upcoming celebration.

For this project, I chose Di’s "Funny Fishing" digital image — it’s lighthearted, charming, and just right for the outdoorsy guy I had in mind. I decided to build my card on a 6" x 6" square base using a scrapyard style with layers of greens and blues, perfect for a nature-inspired, masculine vibe.

To add dimension, I embossed the background papers and tucked a black and white checkered ribbon between them to hide the seam — a small touch that adds a lot of polish. Wanting to add a bit more texture, I brought out my sewing machine and stitched around the edges of the card base. The subtle stitching gave the card a bit of “line” to play off the fishing theme and tied everything together beautifully.

I placed the colored Funny Fishing image on a lightly stenciled background in the center of the card to make it pop. Here’s the fun part — the center panel actually opens up to reveal the punny birthday sentiment: “Fishing you well!”🎣

And of course, no “Button Up” card would be complete without buttons! I added a mix of brown, green, and blue buttons along the bottom of the card, and even found some adorable fish bone buttons hiding in my stash! Above the buttons, I finished it off with another sentiment that reads: “Dropping you a line.”

Though the layout is fairly simple, it’s the extra touches — the stitched edgesstenciled background, and fun button details — that really made this card shine. I had a blast creating it, and I’m confident the recipient will enjoy it just as much as I enjoyed making it!
