Ally's Angels #92 Challenge: Paper Crafting a Bear-Themed Tissue Box Cover
Hello, crafty friends!
I’m so excited to share a fun project I created for the Ally’s Angels Challenge #92! As always, the theme for this challenge is Anything Goes, which leaves so much room for creativity. For this challenge, I decided to go a little outside the box (pun intended! 😉) and create a tissue box cover that’s sure to be a conversation starter.
This isn’t just any tissue box—it’s a bear-themed, wilderness-inspired work of art, complete with a shaker window and an inspiring Bible verse. Keep reading to learn all about how I made this project and where you can get the template!
The Design
The idea behind this tissue box cover was to blend rustic wilderness vibes with a touch of spirituality, creating something that would be right at home in my cabin-inspired living room.
Tissue Box Template: I designed the template for the tissue box cover in Adobe Illustrator, then cut it out using my Cricut. I’ve made the SVG template available for sale in my Etsy Shop if you’d like to make one of your own!
Paper Collection: For this project, I used the beautiful “Into the Woods” paper collection from Craft Consortium. This set is perfect for nature lovers and features gorgeous North American wildlife prints, including bears, trees, and mountains. The earthy tones of the papers—wooden textures, mountain scenes, and starry skies—really brought my vision to life.
Key Features of the Tissue Box
Bear Theme:
On the front of the tissue box, I chose one of the wooden bear toppers from the paper collection, showing the bear walking through the forest. It adds a lovely dimensional touch to the design. To tie it all together, I used the mountain scape paper as the backdrop, making it feel like the bear is walking through a majestic wilderness.Bible Verse Sentiment:
I wanted the tissue box to have a meaningful touch, so I stamped and embossed a Bible verse on the front. The verse I chose was:
“In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.”
I used copper embossing powder to add a warm, metallic finish to the sentiment, which I think fits perfectly with the rustic feel of the project.Bear Print Shaker Window:
On the opposite side of the tissue box, I made a shaker window in the shape of a bear paw print. To do this, I cut out the bear print from the wood print paper, and then I attached acetate behind the cut-out and filled it with shaker elements in colors like greens, blues, and gold. The colors were chosen to evoke the colors of the forest and sky, and the gold adds a touch of sparkle. To finish the shaker panel, I added a cute little blue flower for an extra pop of color.
How It All Came Together
Once I had everything cut out and assembled, I glued the sides of the tissue box and added the bear and verse to the front. The shaker element was the fun part! I love how it gives a playful, interactive element to an otherwise functional item. Now, every time I reach for a tissue, I get to enjoy a little moment of beauty and inspiration. It’s honestly the perfect addition to my wilderness and cabin-themed living room. I can’t help but smile whenever I see it!
A Little Crafting Tip
If you're new to creating shaker cards or projects, don’t stress! Start small with the shaker elements, and use foam tape to create the space between the acetate and the background paper. This allows the shaker elements to move around freely, giving your project that satisfying "shake" effect.
Also, remember that a template is your best friend—especially when it comes to 3D projects like tissue box covers. The Cricut makes cutting and assembling projects like this so much easier, and I highly recommend using one if you have access to it!
Final Thoughts
This tissue box cover was a joy to create, and I’m so happy with how it turned out. Not only does it reflect my love for nature and wildlife, but it also adds a personal and spiritual touch with the Bible verse. It’s now proudly sitting in my living room, serving both a functional and decorative purpose.
If you’re looking for a unique way to bring the outdoors inside or if you simply love working with nature-inspired papers, I highly recommend giving this project a try!
