Technique Series Finale: Easel Cards – My Favorite Style!
This week at My Time To Craft Christmas, we’re wrapping up our Technique Series, and it’s my turn to choose the focus. Naturally, I had to go with my all-time favorite card style — easel cards!
Easel cards have such a beautiful way of showcasing your cardmaking, giving that little extra "wow" factor without a complicated process. One of the things I love most about easel cards is how easily they can be displayed. They feel more like a keepsake or gift than just a card — which is exactly what handmade cards should be!
For this challenge, I wanted to show just how simple and doable easel cards can be. You don’t need fancy dies, cutting machines, or technical expertise. Just a few basic supplies, a bit of scoring, and some fun papers — and you’re all set!
My Easel Card Details:
Card Base: I used a 6" x 12" piece of cardstock and scored it at 6" and 9".
Easel Mechanism: After folding on the score lines, I added glue to the last 3" flap and adhered a 6" x 6" square to that section. Voilà! The easel base is done.
Papers & Toppers: I decorated with elements from Craft Consortium’s Christmas Market premium paper pack — the artwork and toppers are just so charming!
Color Palette: I paired soft pink and white cardstock with a glittery teal card for a fresh holiday color scheme.
Layers: I added some die-cut layers just to enhance the focal image — but remember, dies are totally optional!
Finishing Touches: A few handmade poinsettias added some festive flair, and I made sure to include a raised element inside so the card props up perfectly when displayed.
I love how this turned out — sweet, simple, and elegant. Easel cards truly make it easy to turn your handmade work into a gift-worthy piece of art. I hope this inspires you to give the technique a try if you haven’t already!
Happy crafting,
Miss Mudge
