Design Team Card for My Time To Craft: Christmas Lights Challenge
Hello Crafty Friends!
I’m so excited to share the card I made for the current My Time To Craft challenge! This month, the theme is "Lights," and I had so much fun bringing this festive theme to life. I decided to create a hexagon floating card that features two adorable hedgehogs, one of which is holding Christmas lights. It's whimsical, sparkly, and full of holiday cheer—just what we need to get in the Christmas spirit!
The Inspiration
When I saw the "Lights" challenge, I immediately thought of Christmas lights and how they bring so much joy and sparkle to the holiday season. I wanted to create a card that not only showcased the magic of Christmas lights but also had some playful, fun elements. So, I started thinking about what I could use to combine these two ideas, and that's when the hedgehogs and Christmas tree came into play.
The Design
For the main images, I used cute hedgehogs from LaLa Land Crafts—one holding a string of colorful Christmas lights (perfect for the theme)! These hedgehogs have such sweet expressions, and I thought they would pair beautifully with a festive background. I layered them over a Christmas tree, which I kept simple to make the lights and hedgehogs stand out.
I went with a hexagon floating card design to give the scene a little more dimension. This style is one of my favorites because it adds a unique touch to the card while allowing the images to "float" on the front.
Coloring
I used my trusty Ohuhu Alcohol Markers to color the hedgehogs. These markers are great for getting smooth, even coverage, and I love how vibrant the colors turn out. For the hedgehog's fur, I went with warm browns and some soft highlights to give them that fluffy, cozy look.
As for the Christmas lights, I stamped them using a stamp set from Made to Surprise. I colored the lights with gel pens to give them a sparkly, shimmery effect. The gel pens worked wonderfully, adding a bit of magic to the card with their bright and reflective finish. They catch the light just right and really make the card feel festive.
Adding the Sparkle
Since Christmas lights are all about sparkle, I wanted to make sure the card had that extra bit of shine. Apart from the gel pens on the lights, I added a few extra embellishments. I used some glittery cardstock for the background, which complements the twinkling lights and adds depth to the design.
Final Thoughts
This floating hexagon card turned out to be the perfect way to capture the essence of Christmas Lights in a playful and creative way. The combination of the sweet hedgehogs, the colorful lights, and the sparkly embellishments brings a fun holiday vibe, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.
I’m so glad I could participate in the My Time To Craft challenge this month! I hope you find some inspiration here to create your own holiday cards featuring lights—whether it’s string lights, twinkle lights, or just the warm glow of the season.
