Peeking Elf Card for My Time to Craft Christmas Challenge
The Design Inspiration
When I first saw the challenge, I immediately thought of my stash of gorgeous patterned papers from Craft Consortium. I had these super cute Christmas designs that were absolutely perfect for an elf-themed card. There was one particular element with a whimsical elf that I knew would be the star of the show. From there, I decided to create a design where the elf was peeking through a circular window. The circular element is something I often use, and I thought it would make for a fun, fresh twist on a traditional Christmas card.
The Layout and Materials
I decided to make my card square-shaped, which really lets the design shine and gives it a unique touch. Here’s how I put it together:
- Base Card: A square, pink card base (5.5" x 5.5") to keep things clean and simple, letting the design do the talking.
- Circular Window: I used a my designed SVG File to create a circular window in the center of the card. This window allows the elf to "peek" through, adding a fun interactive element.
- Patterned Papers: The surrounding space around the window is decorated with multiple layers of patterned paper from Craft Consortium. The papers feature various festive prints like stripes, polka dots, and gingham, all in non-traditional Christmas colors (reds, pinks, and touches of teal). These papers help to frame the elf's window and add visual interest without taking the focus away from the main image.
- Elf Image: The adorable elf image was taken from the Craft Consortium Paper Pack and trimmed to size. . I love how the elf’s cheeky little face pops out through the circular window, making it look like they’re peeking in on whoever receives the card!
Why I Chose This Design
There are a few reasons I chose this design for my My Time to Craft Christmas challenge entry. First, the elf theme was just too cute to pass up, and I knew I wanted to create something a little playful and interactive. The idea of the elf peeking through a window adds a fun surprise element, which I think makes the card even more special. Plus, the Craft Consortium papers were just too perfect for this design — the colors and patterns were spot on for a whimsical Christmas elf theme!
I also really enjoyed working with a square layout and the circular window element. It was a bit simpler from what I typically do, and I love how the design turned out. It’s always great to step out of your rut and try new things!
